Caring for UGG Boots in Winter
UGGs in winter is a no-brainer for lovers of comfort. They’re warm, plush, and go with just about any outfit combo you want to break out, but winter isn’t exactly gentle on the materials. Rain, puddles, dirt, and even ice can take your soft, fluffy UGGs from cosy to crusty very quickly. With a little know-how and a low-maintenance DIY care routine, you’ll keep your UGGs looking fresh all year round.
Especially great for winter are UGG Platforms, styles like the Classic Mini Dipper have that extra bit of height that keeps the materials at a safe distance from the wet ground.
Spray before you go out and about
If your UGGs haven’t been waterproofed yet, it’s time to add that to your schedule. Don’t even think about wearing them out until they’ve had a nice spray of water and stain repellent. This is your first line of defence against the winter elements. The UGG Care Kit features its own protector spray works great to keep moisture at bay. Spray evenly, let them dry overnight, and you’re golden.
Don’t get them soaked
UGGs were made for winter, but not that doesn’t mean that they should be the first thing you throw on when the conditions are looking grim and wet. Wear them in the cold and dry, not wet and wild. If you get caught out in the rain or snow in your UGGS, stuff your boots with paper to help them hold their shape and let them dry naturally once you get home. No direct heat from heaters or dryers, just have a little patience.
A little cleaning never hurt anyone
Spilled some coffee or there are some water lines on your UGGs? No stress, give your boots a gentle brush with a suede brush or other very soft bristled brush to knock off surface grime. Then dampen them slightly (avoid soaking) with a clean sponge, just get them slightly damp. Use a suede cleaner mixed with water and gently scrub in circular motions. Rinse with the sponge, then leave them to dry far away from direct heat. Once dry, give them another brush to bring the nap back to life.
Keep the smells at bay
The inside of UGGs are like clouds for your feet, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get can get a little smelly after a while. To keep the interior of your UGGs feeling and smelling fresh, sprinkle in a bit of baking soda. Leave it overnight, and shake it out the next day. You can also give the inside a fluff with a sheepskin brush if things start feeling flat. Make sure to let them breathe a little between wears also.
Store your UGGs the right way
When you’re done with winter, don’t just toss your UGGs into the back of your wardrobe. Stuff them with some tissue to help hold their shape and store them in their original box, or a dust bag if you don’t have the original box handy. Keep them in a cool, dry space out of direct sunlight to avoid coming back to faded, floppy boot in the spring.
